The Historic WOW! Signal
Detected in August 1977 as an unusual “narrowband” signal by Ohio State University’s “Big Ear” radio telescope -- indicating that it may have originated from the region of the constellation known as Sagittarius -- The WOW! Signal bore all the hallmarks of extraterrestrial origin.
After his data was initially recorded, Astronomer Jerry Ehman at Ohio State was analyzing computer printouts received there and was amazed to find a signal that seemed to indicate intelligence. Ehman was so impressed by the result that he circled the signal’s intensity “6EQUJ5” and wrote “WOW!” beside it, in red pen.
This exciting event and resulting signal, which was operating on a frequency not used by terrestrial or satellite transmitters and which was 30-times stronger than the generic background noise of the Universe, has led to the phenomenon’s widely used name, “The WOW! Signal.”
Although the “6EQUJ5” sequence lasted only about 72 seconds, it has not been detected since. Despite several subsequent attempts, including by Ehman himself, The WOW! Signal remains the strongest candidate for an extraterrestrial radio transmission ever officially detected by scientists.
Even today, The WOW! Signal continues to stir the imagination and provoke controversy!

Was The Historic WOW! Signal A Melody?
The Editors of The WOW! Signal received this fascinating note below on March 28, 2025, from Composer Erich Habich-Traut, the Founder of ContactProject.org and a Supporting Member of The Hollywood Disclosure Alliance, about the Possibility that the Historic WOW! Signal may have been a Musical Tune!!
According to Erich Habich-Traut:
I published an equation demonstrating that the historic WOW! Signal, which was discovered by astronomer Jerry Ehman in 1977, originated from a moving object approaching Earth. This equation is not ‘prose,’ but its conclusion can be mathematically verified. I'm not an academic; therefore, I have found it quite challenging to disseminate this information.
To share my findings creatively, I composed a melody inspired by the sequence of the six "words" of The WOW! Signal and released it as a single on platforms like iTunes. It's been released not for riches but to protect the rights to the sequence of notes, which is basic.

The historic WOW! Signal was a sequence of symbols—6EQUJ5—etched into the annals of astronomy, a cryptic whisper from the depths of space. Once, it was a burst of radio waves -- a fleeting enigma that haunted our telescopes.
Now, in 2025, it has become a melody using the notes (6, e, q, u, j, 5) with a melancholic feel and simple piano rhythm. C (5) – E (e) – G (5) – A (6) – G (5) – E (e) – D (q) – C (5)
