Aliens In Entertainment: Here to Help Us, Kill Us, Or Eat Us?

Since the dawn of the motion picture age and later, television, the global entertainment industry has produced tens of thousands of movies and TV series episodes presenting Aliens coming to the Earth.
Usually, to sell the most tickets to theater seats and get the highest TV ratings, the movie and television studios have shown us Aliens who are here to either kill us or eat us.
Examples of evil Aliens in showbiz are obvious and overwhelming: War of the Worlds, Independence Day, Alien and its Sequels, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers, Predator, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Blob, The Thing, Mars Attacks, Men in Black, Pitch Black, Signs, Super 8, District 9, and many dozens more. Not to mention the “Evil Alien or Monster of the Week” featured on TV’s The X-Files for how many years..
My favorite episode of The Twilight Zone was called To Serve Man. Aliens come to Earth pretending to help mankind. But as they are loading dozens of humans onto their spaceship, someone realizes that the title of their Manual for dealing with People on Earth translates into English as “To Serve Man” – and that the manual is actually a COOK BOOK!
Conversely, there have only been a small handful of Benevolent or Benign Aliens in entertainment. The most obvious choices from this group have been: ET: The Extraterrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Contact, Arrival, Cocoon, Starman, The Abyss, Earth Girls Are Easy, and perhaps my new favorite in this category, Jules, starring Ben Kingsley.
Shameless Plug Time: When I wrote my sci-fi novel, AFTER THEY CAME, during 2017-2018, I wanted to create a story about two Benevolent Aliens who come to Earth to save mankind, solving all of our long insurmountable problems, and while doing so, rescue the life of a poor, lost man who is drowning himself on his 70th birthday in the Pacific Ocean. My book was published in 2023 by Genius Book Publishing, and since that time, I’ve received kind words from people I’ve met at UFO Conventions like AlienCon, UFOCon, MUFON, and Contact in the Desert, as well as praise via dozens of emails from around the world from readers who’ve said, “Thank you, Dan, for finally creating a story about Benevolent Aliens who aren’t here to destroy our planet and kill us all!”
I’m thrilled to report that AFTER THEY CAME will soon become available as an AUDIOBOOK. I’m also currently pitching it as a three-part TV mini-series.
