Contact In The Desert To Present Iconic UAP Researcher Dr. Jacques Vallée With Its 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award:
Vallee Will Join 5 Hynek Children for a
“Close Encounters” Family Reunion
Coachella Valley, CA, March 23, 2026 -- The 2026 Contact in the Desert conference will be held, May 28 – June 1, at the beautiful Renaissance Esmeralda Resort and Spa in Indian Wells, CA, and producers have just announced that the recipient of their 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award will be distinguished information scientist and UFOlogy researcher Dr. Jacques Vallée.
In addition to receiving his award, Vallee will also participate in a truly unique panel: Close Encounters of the Family Kind: The Hynek Legacy with Jacques Vallée.
For the first time ever, all five children of Dr. J. Allen Hynek: Scott, Roxane, Joel, Paul, and Ross, will join Jacques Vallée, their father's closest scientific collaborator, on stage together. Dr. Hynek spent two decades as the Air Force's chief scientific consultant on UFOs. Vallée has carried their shared work forward for forty years. Moderated by Paul Hynek, this unprecedented panel weaves personal memory with unfinished science, and discusses what Hynek and Vallée's partnership means for the field now that the world is finally catching up.
Initially an astronomer, Dr. Vallée’s illustrious career spans many fields and accomplishments including the development of computerized maps with the NASA program and a pioneer of the internet itself. Dr. Vallée is a particularly important figure in the study of UFOs and UAPs, being first noted for his defense of the scientific legitimacy of the extraterrestrial hypothesis and later for promoting the interdimensional hypothesis. Notably, in pop culture, Dr. Vallée was the real-life foundation for the character ‘Claude Lacombe’ in Steven Spielberg’s film Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
CITD Executive Producer Ron Janix states, “Jacque Vallée is without question one of the most respected, admired and influential figures in the history of UFOlogy. His lifetime of achievements as an information scientist, astronomer, author, and internet pioneer are unparalleled. We are incredibly honored Mr. Vallée is able to join us at Contact in the Desert this year, and thrilled to be able to bestow him with an award he so rightfully deserves!”
Boasting the theme “Infinite Realms,” CITD 2026 will explore the question “What is the true nature of reality?” CITD will host over 60 of the world’s most prestigious experts in their fields, with more than 120 lectures, workshops, intensives, films, live podcasts, and panels to choose from. The five-day event will explore such topics as: UFO/UAP’s, government disclosure, Artificial Intelligence, consciousness, psi, telepathy and other mental communication abilities, ancient civilizations, future technologies, non-human intelligences, spirituality, and more.
